Lazarus Churchyard was Warren Ellis' answer to cyberpunk, according to his foreword. Not wishing to relegate himself to what he considered, at that point, a dead genre whose "dulling bones [were] being picked over", Ellis either disregarded or re-imagined many of the tropes of cyberpunk while doing what he does best: running pell-mell with the outrageous possibilities that face us, culturally /5.

Lazarus Churchyard, as far as I can tell, was a character who appeared in Heavy Metal and possibly even less mainstream books.

He is an older brainchild of Warren Ellis from his pre-Stormwatch days. Lazarus is technically immortal. The vast majority of his body was shorn away at the genetic base level and replaced with highly resilient /5(5).

Overall, Lazarus Churchyard reminded me of a British-flavored Grimjack, from its central bar setting to its god-of-violence antihero. That's fine; I liked Grimjack, and I like this book.
